Achieve More Balance with the Five Reiki Principles

You may be familiar with the quote “Be the change you want to see in the world” which has frequently been attributed to Mahatma Gandhi. I was surprised, however, to discover that this may in fact be a paraphrase of something much more profound. According to Joseph Ranseth, Mahatma Gandhi actually observed that “We but mirror the world. All the tendencies present in the outer world are to be found in the world of our body. If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change.”. Whatever the true quote may be, the message remains the same. If each of us make positive changes, the world in turn will make positive changes and let’s face it, now would be a good time for it.

 

As a Reiki Practitioner and Life & Career Coach my mission is to continue creating positive changes in my own life whilst supporting others to do the same. I first became interested in positive change when I was introduced to Reiki almost 10 years ago. The practice of Reiki has without question supported me to transform my life. It is on that basis that I feel compelled to share some fundamental Reiki teachings that can help you transform your life. 

 

The practice of Reiki is built on the foundations of five Reiki principles. As with Gandhi’s quote there are slight differences in the wording depending on the source of information. The message, however, remains the same. 


The Reiki Principles

Just for today, I will not worry.
Just for today, I will not be angry.
Just for today, I will be grateful.
Just for today, I will do my work honestly.
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.


The principles are not only a great way for Reiki Practitioners to remain balanced and strengthen their practice, they are also useful tools for everyone to help manage the ups and downs of daily life. It is believed that taking a few moments at the beginning and end of each day to recite these principles can help cultivate overall wellbeing.  They help us to remain balanced, provide us with perspective, remind us of what is important in life and give us an opportunity to live life harmoniously, thus allowing our true selves to flourish. 

 

One of the great things about Reiki is that you don’t need to be a practitioner to experience the benefits. Over the course of the next few weeks I will be sharing with you some tips and techniques on how to incorporate these five principles into your daily lives. Hopefully, they will empower you to create the positive changes you would like to see in the world.
